Traveling with a full drum kit usually means checking oversized baggage or renting gear at your destination. Hooplug® lets you pop the magnetic ring off each drum and nest the shells inside one another, so a kit packs down into a fraction of the space — with the same tuning waiting for you when you reassemble it.
Why drum kits are hard to travel with
Shell packs are bulky and awkward to move as-is: several round cases, none of which stack or pack efficiently together. Renting gear at the destination solves the space problem but adds cost and means playing on an unfamiliar kit.
How nesting works with Hooplug®
Because Hooplug® clamps onto your hoop with magnets instead of tension rods, taking it off takes seconds — no drum key, no loosening rods one by one. Once the ring is off, the shell is just an open cylinder, so a smaller drum slides inside the next size up.

Before your first trip
Not every shell depth and diameter nests cleanly into every other — check that your specific drums’ internal/external diameters fit one inside the other before you travel, not the night before a flight. Not sure? Email info@hooplug.com with your drum brand and model and we’ll confirm.
Does nesting affect tuning or sound?
No. Taking Hooplug® on and off doesn’t require re-tuning — the head stays tuned as it was — and it doesn’t change the sound of the drum.

Does nesting drums scratch the shells?
No — Hooplug® includes small protective sponges to insert between the nested shells, so they don’t rub together in transit.
Do I need special tools to take Hooplug® off before a trip?

Can any drum size nest inside another?

Do I still need a case for nested drums?
Nesting reduces how many shells you’re carrying, not the need to protect them — a padded bag or case for the outermost shell is still worth using, especially for checked baggage or shipping.
