A quick-release drum hoop replaces the tension rods on your snare or tom with a magnetic locking ring, so you can swap a drumhead in seconds instead of loosening 6–10 rods with a drum key. Hooplug® is a patented quick-release system made of an ABS ring and neodymium magnets that fits onto your existing hoop — no need to buy new hardware, and no permanent modification to your drum.
What is a quick-release drum hoop system?
Traditional drum hoops are held in place by tension rods — usually six, eight, or ten per drum — that you have to loosen one by one, in a star pattern, every time you change a head or adjust the tuning. It works, but it’s slow, and it’s easy to lose even tension across the rim if you rush it.
A quick-release system like Hooplug® keeps your existing hoop (triple flange, die-cast, or wood — it doesn’t matter) but adds a magnetic ring around it. Snap it into place, and the magnets hold the head tight and in tune. To change the head, you release the magnets instead of unscrewing every rod.

Is Hooplug® compatible with your drum kit?
Before ordering, check these points — they’re the most common compatibility questions we get:
- Even number of tension rods. Hooplug® isn’t compatible with drums that have an odd number of tension rods (some Gretsch toms use 5, for example).
- Suspension mounts. If your toms use suspension mounts, they’ll usually need to be removed or replaced — normally a simple job.
- Any hoop works. Triple flange, die-cast, even wood — you keep using your own hoops, Hooplug® just clamps onto them.
- Standard inch sizing. Hooplug® matches standard drum sizes: 10″, 12″, 14″ (snare), 16″, 20″, 22″.
- Nesting drums. If you’re planning to nest your drums for travel, double-check the internal/external diameters fit one inside the other.

Beyond swapping heads
Because Hooplug® is a magnetic ring rather than a permanent modification, the same hardware opens up a few things a normal hoop can’t:
- Quiet practice — insert a muffling pad into the ring to reduce volume without switching to a full mute kit.
- Nesting drums for travel — pop the ring off and nest one drum inside another to save space.
- Hybrid/electronic conversion — add a drum trigger (sold separately) and turn an acoustic drum into an electronic or hybrid one, without giving up your acoustic kit.

FAQ
Do quick-release drum hoops work with any drum?
Almost any acoustic drum with an even number of tension rods and standard inch sizing (10″–22″) is compatible. Drums with suspension mounts or an odd number of rods (some Gretsch toms) need extra care — check the compatibility checklist above or email us before ordering.
Will a quick-release hoop affect my tone?
No — Hooplug® keeps your original hoop in place; it doesn’t replace it. The magnetic ring adds a quick-release mechanism on top, so the tone comes from your existing hoop and head, not from Hooplug® itself.
How long does it take to change a head with Hooplug®?
A matter of seconds once the ring is fitted, versus several minutes of loosening tension rods with a drum key the traditional way.
Can I still use my own hoops?
Yes. Hooplug® is designed to clamp onto any hoop — triple flange, die-cast, or wood — so you’re not locked into buying new hoops.
What’s the difference between Hooplug® Single and Full Pack?
Single includes one Hooplug® ring for a single drum, starting at €69. Full Pack includes five rings (enough for a standard kit: three toms/kick of your choice plus two snare-size rings) starting at €379.
